Antibiotic
Antibiotics are medications that are used to treat bacterial infections. They work by either stopping bacteria from multiplying or destroying them [1]. Antibiotics can be derived from bacteria or molds or can be synthesized from scratch [4]. However, the term “antibiotic” is often used interchangeably with “antibacterial drug” [4].
Antibiotics can have interactions with other drugs, potentially reducing their effectiveness or increasing side effects [3]. Overuse and misuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, which is a global public health threat that results in at least 1.27 million deaths worldwide each year [5][7].
